Virology

Viral infection is generally followed by a humoral immune response conveyed by the production of specific antibodies for the virus antigens (immunoglobulin IgG and IgM).

For viral infection diagnostics, bmd offers you ImmunoDOT, ELISA, Immuno Fluorescent (IFI) or rapid test virus detection kits, the performances of which have been validated by a large number of biologists.

The ImmunoDOT technique is specifically intended for low-activity laboratories or for an emergency technique as they are unit tests while ELISA is more suitable for large series or for automation.

EBV solution by bmd.

  • Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a ubiquitous virus infecting the majority of the population (>95% infected adult subjects). Infectious mononucleosis (IMN) is the syndrome conventionally accompanying primary infection in adolescents and young adults. bmd offers a range of reagents for testing for antibodies targeted against VCA (virus capsid antigen) and EBNA (Epstein-Barr nuclear antigen) proteins. With the DOT technique, we offer you CMV controls to conduct a differential diagnosis in order to eliminate infections caused by other viruses (cross-reactions). In addition, you will detect the correct IgM using our solution absorbing RF and non-specific IgG. The ELISA technique offers you a specificity greater than 93% and a sensitivity greater than 98% for VCA IgG and EBNA IgG.

Differentiate Herpes.

  • Herpes virus (HSV) includes two types: HSV-1 responsible for oral, neuro-meningeal, ophthalmic herpes; HSV-2 responsible for genital herpes. bmd offers you kits enabling you to distinguish between different types of Herpes in order to determine the treatment. The range consists of ImmunoDOT kits for unit tests and ELISA kits for higher levels of activity.

Reliable CMV detection.

  • Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in pregnant women is a potential cause of foetal damage. It is the most frequent congenital foetal infection in developed countries. The immunoCapture technique makes it possible to obtain excellent specificity of 99.6% and also very good sensitivity of 99.4% (according to an evaluation of a panel of 482 patients with the CMV 110 PKS (IgM) kit). CMV kits contain coloured reagents for improved viewing in wells.

Need responses in 15 min? Try our rapid viral tests.

  • The use of rapid tests is currently growing due to the result return speed and their ease of use, while guaranteeing validated sensitivity and specificity for biologists. The time required between the prescription and therapeutic decision is reduced, making the use of these tests a first-line method in patient care. These tests, based on the immunochromatography principle, are particularly used in enteric and respiratory viral infection diagnosis. They are offered in strip or cartridge format.

A suitable tool for Rota and Adenoviruses

  • bmd offers unit or combined detection tests for Rotavirus group A VP6 antigens and human Adenovirus genus antigen. Their sensitivity and specificity are 98 and 99% respectively compared to a reference ELISA method. The combined format is particularly suitable for detecting the virus(es) responsible in cases of acute gastroenteritis, using a single sampling tube.

Immediate results in Influenza virus type A and B antigen detection

  • The use of specific monoclonal antibodies for haemaglutinin HA and neuraminidase NA makes it possible to detect influenza A and B viruses in nasopharyngeal secretions with a 98% sensitivity and 88% specificity for influenza A. A single simple, instrument-free test makes it possible to make the therapeutic decision after 15 min, particularly in sensitive subjects (elderly subjects, children, pregnant women) irrespective of the virus in question.
